My 7 Favourite Ways To De-stress After Work
I’d like to share seven of my most favourite ways that I de-stress after a crazy day at work!
1. W
alk it off. Being able to take the time after work and walk part of the way home can make a big difference for me. I lose myself in the new surroundings and look at the houses, the colours around me and stop to smell the flowers! If it’s been a particularly bad day, with each step I imagine leaving little bits of the day behind. I tend to stomp it out, let’s say.
2. Vent to a friend. Chatting with someone who knows me and no one at work is always helpful. Being able to talk about the day may actually make me realize some of the good things that happened too.
3. Take myself out for dinner. If I’m feeling contemplative and need to be alone, going out for a meal is an excellent way to get what I need. Sure the waiter or waitress will be there, but they are there for ME! Being a tad selfish, in a kind way, will help me re-balance the day.
4. Play with the cat. My cat is particularly crazy, so when I get home and notice she’s in a playful mood I grab the string and make her chase it. She tends to play like there’s nothing else going on in the world which allows me to feel the same. I giggle and smile when she does crazy flips or jumps so high it boggles my mind!
5. Watch some mindless tv. I don’t have cable, but putting in a DVD or watching something I’ve downloaded can help me release the tension I’ve come home with. The show has to be light and fluffy and can’t be serious for me, I usually have to know it’s going to make me laugh out loud!
6. Eat something bad, but Oh So Good! Enjoying a small delicacy makes me feel like a rebel sometimes! Buying a cupcake or that cinnamon roll I’ve been trying to ignore for three days puts me into a happier mood because I’ve done something for myself and not felt bad about it. I figure I deserve it after a day like today!
7. Laugh! Giggle, bust-a-gut, chuckle, guffaw or snort. However you like to laugh, laugh out loud to help yourself de-stress. Whether it’s with a great show, with a friend, or something I read, laughing heals my soul and helps me forget about the insane day that I’ve had.
I hope you’ve enjoyed reading this blog and how I release some of the craziness in my life! Please share any other ways you enjoy re-balancing your soul after “one of those days” at work.
